Hello dear World of Warcraft gamers,
during the Holidays, Blizzard released the official (still uncomplete) WoW API, based on JSON. I've already took a first look at them and this may really change the way we currently look for our guild's progression (easier, faster!). I'm posting this news now due to a blue post appeared on the EU forums, here it is:
HTML Datamining and You (by Takralus, World of Warcraft -> Forums -> Gameplay -> General)
Now that the API is live, we want to make you all aware that HTML datamining (via eu.battle.net/wow or any of the other regional wow sites) is not acceptable. Within the next 7 days, we will start to blacklist users that are making excessive requests to our regular community sites. If you are currently in the process of porting over to the API and have not requested a key yet, please do so. We do not want to interrupt service for community sites that are following that path. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with specific questions/concerns, or reply to this thread with any general comments. Thank you for your cooperation :-)
As the current tracker (4.0.3) uses the HTML datamining technique in order to grab the data, I want to advise you about the possibility battle.net may temporarly or permanently ban your website, if it's highly visited, suggesting you thus to disable the module in this case.
I'll work on a 5.x version of the module, still for Joomla! 1.5 (portable to 1.6 this time), in order to grab the data from the new API (and re-introducing the heroic boss-per-boss progression!).
Stay tuned!
